July 10th 1940, in Fairlight, outside Hastings on the English channel coast – the fast approaching hum of the German Messerschmitt Bf 109E and Bf 110C heralds the beginning of the Battle of Britain, the epic fight between the German Luftwaffe and the RAF, the Royal Air Force.

The RAF’s HURRICANE, the trustworthy “workhorse” of the British airforce bore the brunt of the battle that lasted from July 10th 1940 to October 31st 1940. A solidly built single engine aircraft equipped with eight Browning 303 machine guns the HURRICANE proved a formidable foe despite being slower than the German Messerschmitt. Generally the RAF’s Spitfire would intercept the German fighters, leaving HURRICANES to concentrate on the bombers, but despite the undoubted abilities of the “thoroughbred” Spitfire, it was the HURRICANE that scored the highest number of RAF victories during this period. The HURRICANE – RAF’s forgotten fighter star of the Battle of Britain, the plane “never known to fail”.

To commemorate the HURRICANE and the brave pilots who fought and fell with them we are proud to introduce our new pilot’s watch, the aptly named “HURRICANE WORLDTIMER”.

The HURRICANE WORLDTIMER is available in four colors – silver, black, red and yellow – and is sold in a black lacquered, wooden gift box.

I have owned dozens of watches from automatics to quartz, and have yet to own a Chronograph. That changes with my review of the Swiss Military Chronograph Hurricane Worldtime. The Worldtimer continues the success of the HURRICANE released in 2010. The watch features functions of a professional pilot’s watch such as a circular sliderule, allowing you to do aviation-relevant calculations, a world-time bezel with mulitiple timezeons and a chronograph.

The Swiss Military Hurricane Worldtimer comes in 4 references, Ref. 2475 silver dial, Ref. 2476 black dial, Ref. 2477 red dial and Ref. 2478 yellow dial. The one that I review here is the silver dial version with matte finish two tone bracelet. While some watch brands say they are Swiss Made, Swiss Military actually makes all parts and assembly in Switzerland.

The Hurricane Worldtimer features solid stainless steel case with a screw-down crown. It is powered by the Ronda cal. 5030D quartz movement. The watch features Superluminova covered indices to allow you to see at night. Thanks to the screw down crown, the Worldtimer is water resistant to 20atm/200 meters. The watch features a scratch resistant sapphire crystal that case is 46.5mm with 12mm thickness. The watch weighs about 200grams.

The Hurricane Worldtimer is the ultimate professional pilot’s watch. The first moments I opened the box for the Worldtimer, I believe this is the best watch I reviewed to date. The watch has great wrist presence and functions that are unique to this watch. The Swiss Military Worldtimer lives up to it’s motto of no compromise.
