Techne a brand that I previously reviewed with the GosHawk now has released the Techne Harrier. Techne is well known in the watch community for their retro pilot and aviator watches at affordable prices. The company continues to produce top notch watches with options for movements and features.

The Techne Harrier comes in 3 different versions with info listed below.

Ref. 363 – version with high-beat inline anchor lever and self-winding
Ref. 375 – version with quartz resonator, small seconds and oversize date
Ref. 392 – version with quartz resonator, Military Time display, independent Time Zone display and oversize date window (+45%)

Techne Instruments has updated the packaging for the Harrier. The new watch comes in unfinished wooden box with 24 month warranty card, instruction manual and Seal of Authenticity.

The one I received was the Ref 375 with Quartz movement, small seconds, and oversize date. The 375 is the most basic model but in my opinion the best looking. The minimalist design shows the striking easy to read black dial with white lettering. The watch sells for as little as $220 and comes with many strap options. The Techne Harrier shown here comes with 5 NATO straps including the USM woven nylon strap pattern after the NATO worn by Sean Connery in the 1964 motion picture Goldfinger.

The Techne Harrier is the perfect size at only 41mm which looks equally great on large or small hands. The Harrier also features Scratch-proof sapphire with inner anti-reflective coating. The lume on the Harrier is excellent and even a little light makes the dial glow green. The two dots flanking the 12 is a nod to early 20th century military watches. The Quartz version is powered by the Miyota GP11 movement. If you’re willing to spend more money you can opt for the more expensive Ref 363 with Miyota 9015 automatic movement. The case is made of brushed 316L stainless steel with a screw down crown that provides 50m of water resistant.

Techne continues to make some of the best retro style aviator watches around. While I like Mechanical watches I think the Ref 375 Precision Quartz model is perfect and practical for those who want accuracy and need to be on time for their job. I haven’t found a Techne model I didn’t like or crave, and the Harrier is one that continues my love of all things Techne.
